Property, building & construction
Property was originally the firm’s sole practice area, and it remains a particular strength.
Today our main focus in the property area is advisory work on developments and resolving issues, rather than day-to-day transactional work, although we still do this type of work when requested by our clients.
Using our property experience as a base, we have acted for a wide range of participants in the building and construction industry, including developers, contractors, architects, engineers, project managers and project financiers.
We recognise that successful construction projects depend on appropriate risk management strategies, particularly the early identification and pricing of potential hazards.
New challenges for the industry are presented by security of payments legislation, OH&S and industrial relations reforms, and an increasing trend to depart from conventional forms of contracting.
Apart from our general transactional property expertise, our specific expertise includes:
- contract entry advice and negotiation
- dispute resolution including litigation, mediation and arbitration
- security of payments
- National Code of Practice
- providing general contract administration advice and training, both on client created contract documentation and industry standard contracts
